If we&#8217;ve got all the stuff we need,\u00a0the windows stand a much better chance of getting made. Being totally new to this craft we hadn&#8217;t got\u00a0much of\u00a0a\u00a0clue where to start.<\/p>\n<p>O.H. hit the web and surfed around. First site worth a good look at was one she&#8217;d found whilst looking at stained glass designs &#8211;\u00a0<a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.freepatternsforstainedglass.com');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.freepatternsforstainedglass.com\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;free patterns for stained glass&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0. It&#8217;s got some tutorials and descriptions of tools etc.\u00a0 This and other\u00a0sites gave us a starting point.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to buying the actual glass we were both a bit concerned about choosing and buying on-line. There are quite a few on-line stained glass shops but as the texture and real life colours are important we choose to find a REAL shop. Finding one local to us wasn&#8217;t easy, it took a few phone calls and O.H. was eventually put on to <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.kansacraft.co.uk');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.kansacraft.co.uk\">KANSA<\/a>. \u00a0They are based not too many miles away so we went for an afternoon out.<\/p>\n<p>We spent a good couple of hours searching through the stocks a glass, looking at tools and taking advice from the staff.\u00a0 Yes, we could have bought cheaper but I don&#8217;t mind paying the price when it comes\u00a0with comes with the confidence we&#8217;ve got the right stuff.\u00a0\u00a0After helping us\u00a0load up the car, the parting words from the man in the shop were &#8220;Any problems, just give us a call&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We had spent just over \u00a3200\u00a0this\u00a0got us the tools we\u00a0need to pursue an interesting hobby and the materials for this first project.<\/p>\n<p>These are the tools:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_366\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC_2355.jpg');\"  href=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC_2355.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-366\" class=\"size-full wp-image-366\" title=\"Tools for Leaded glass\" src=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC_2355.jpg\" alt=\"The selection of specialist tools for leaded Glass work\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC_2355.jpg 500w, https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/DSC_2355-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-366\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The tools we bought for our Stained \/ Leaded Glass work<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The main tools are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glass cutter, self oiling<\/li>\n<li>Cut Running Pliers<\/li>\n<li>Lead Knife<\/li>\n<li>Hammer- you can never have too many hammers<\/li>\n<li>Soldering iron<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also in the picture are some other bits and bobs<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead solder<\/li>\n<li>Tallow, for flux<\/li>\n<li>Cement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We had to take a Guess at how much lead came we would need. At \u00a32 -3\u00a0 for approx 8 10&#8243; sheets we didn&#8217;t skimp too much.<\/p>\n<p>Next is where I butted in and had a\u00a0 go at cutting and leading.\u00a0\u00a0 I know, I should have stepped back but in my defence, i couldn&#8217;t resist.
