I took this after its maiden trip up and down the back lane.\u00a0 Thankfully the after about 13 years the engine started, once I got the fuel running and unblocked the air filter.\u00a0 So skipping back, there where lots of fiddly bits to sort out:<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE DRIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_340\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2330.jpg');\"  href=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2330.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-340\" class=\"size-full wp-image-340\" title=\"DSC_2330\" src=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2330.jpg\" alt=\"Chain reduction drive for walking tractor\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2330.jpg 500w, https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2330-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-340\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An Extra 3:1 reduction cobbled together<\/p><\/div>\n<p>From the Engine to the original rear wheel sprocket. Welded to some bar, through a good fitting tube, connected to the CB550 engine sprocket. And I got all technical by adding a grease nipple to the tube.\u00a0 The tube is on a hinged plate\u00a0fitted with an adjuster to tension the chain to the engine. the final drive chain is tensioned using the original adjusters on the swinging arm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE CLUTCH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I splashed out some time here on a &#8221; safety feature&#8221; . This pulls the the clutch arm like the normal cable would so the clutch is disengaged. The lever is sprung loaded to centre itself.\u00a0 It&#8217;s surprisingly easy to select gears and find neutral afterwards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE ELECTRICARY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Down to almost the bare minimum.\u00a0 Almost minimum? Well an on \/ off switch is a luxury I can cope with.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starting at the beginning:\u00a0 Alternator &#8211; two wires to rectifier &#8211;\u00a0Negative out to frame &#8211; positive up to the headlamp switch &#8211; switch to coil &#8211; coil to condenser and points &#8211; HT to spark plug.\u00a0 Keep it simple!<\/p>\n<p><strong>KICK START<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_338\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2337.jpg');\"  href=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2337.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-338\" class=\"size-full wp-image-338\" title=\"DSC_2337\" src=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2337.jpg\" alt=\"Modified kick start\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2337.jpg 500w, https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2337-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-338\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kick start where I can get to it<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The bottom joint welded up and &#8220;T&#8221; piece on the top. Fits nicely between the frame and gives almost the full swing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE EXHAUST<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_343\" style=\"width: 342px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/downloads\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2334.jpg');\"  href=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2334.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-343\" class=\"size-full wp-image-343 \" title=\"DSC_2334\" src=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2334.jpg\" alt=\"Bike exhaust twisted up\" width=\"332\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2334.jpg 332w, https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DSC_2334-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-343\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">For that proper tractor feel, the exhaust sticks straight up<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0Only one curve adjustment on the down pipe, or should that now be up-pipe.\u00a0 And A bit of\u00a0angle welded to the frame give some extra support to the silencer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHUG CHUG CHUG<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It looks the part, especially when you now what &#8220;the part&#8221; is.\u00a0 More importantly in runs, bags of torque and I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll get used to the\u00a0handling.\u00a0\u00a0 It needs a few bits &#8216;n&#8217; bobs tidying, tightening\u00a0, cleaning and\u00a0greasing.\u00a0Then some thought going in to the trailer hitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0Keep an eye out for some video&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/idostuff.co.uk\/blogs\/2010\/two-wheel-tractor-working\/\" target=\"_blank\">IT&#8217;S \u00a0HERE<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Details of the highly technical, precision engineering required to make a tractor in about a week.
